5 Delicious Things

Inspired by Bouillie's Random Stuff, here's my top 5 (at this moment) things I love to taste.

* perfectly ripe avocado, smashed onto toast with a sprinkle of sea salt
* that first sip of very good coffee in the morning
* jamon iberico
* salted caramel gelato (I know you said it first, Celeste, but I'm claiming it anyway, since I am somewhat responsible for it being at La Divina *inordinately proud and big-headed*)
* roasted Brussels sprouts

What are yours?

1. The warm crust of fresh-baked bread.

2. A slice of Pepe's pizza in New Haven -- the crisp-outside-chewy-inside crust, the sweet and light tomato sauce, the salty creaminess of the cheese.

3. Coffee with cream and sugar.

4. Medium-rare roast beef.

5. Yellow cake with chocolate icing.

Crust of fresh baked bread = heaven, Melissa. You're so right. With butter. *sigh*

1. My wife's lips, every time I see her: 'she makes hungry / Where most she satisfies'

2. Serious coffee, hot and bitter.

3. Strong drink of good makers. You can't drink it without learning something about yourself.

4. Absolutely fresh o-toro tuna sashimi.

5. Vintage Bollinger champagne. It's wine, it's life, it's creamy and fizzy. My only regret is I don't drink more champagne.

Some of it'll be different if you ask me again tomorrow, but

1. Heirloom tomatoes sliced thickly with good olive oil (the kind that slightly grabs your tongue with dryness) and burrata and basil and sea salt and papper. And crusty bread. yeah.

2. Ikura.

3. Tiritas.

4. Fresh lychees.

5. Liquorice allsorts.

Ooooh, fresh lychees!! OMG, yes. I had to Google #2 and #3. Want.

1. Tomato and thick-cut bacon on sourdough.

2. Blueberry custard cake whose recipe has sadly passed into the West and is lost to mortal Men.

3. Soupe a l'oignon gratinee.

4. Ha gao and siu mai.

5. Pate de foie gras.

Lipitor chaser.

Hey, there's enough salted caramel gelato to go around....

Fishy, I am absolutely with you on the dumplings. Oh, dumplings, how I adore you.

Celeste, good thing, right? Or there would be riots.

Tim, your #1 is très romantique!

1. Fresh figs
2. Avocado on almost anything
3. Chocolate cake and raspberries
4. Crawfish!!! (I miss them.)
5. Lately, can't seem to get enough of rice, shredded beef, black beans, and sweet plantains (Cuban, Costa Rican, Puerto Rican or Venezualan style. It all works.) all mixed up in one plate of yum!

A cold avocado milkshake on a hot day in Vietnam. Don't prejudge this one, the rich body of the avocado compliments the sweet milky goodness of the rest...
