One Year Anniversary Peugeot Pepper Mill Giveaway

One year ago today, I started my blog with this post, proclaiming my intentions and telling a bit about myself.  Yay, one year anniversary!!  What I didn't tell you was this: the reason I really started my blog was because I was very lonely.  My entire social circle disappeared after Katrina and because I have worked from home for the past 5 years, I had little opportunity to rebuild it.   Kid Cayenne (my wife, were it legal... otherwise known as partner, since it isn't) and I share most aspects of our lives, but my wide open-armed love of food is not really one of them.  I decided that if I were to build a new circle of friends, I wanted it it to include other people who shared my obsession for food so that I'd have kindred souls to exchange recipes and ideas with, fixate on obscure ingredients with and hopefully even share a meal with.  My blog is my attempt to create that for myself, both virtually and in real life.

This means I need readers and even more, I need commenters.  I need the exchange.  I need the give and take.  I need YOU, dear readers, to talk to me about what you think, what you like and don't like.  What you agree with, what you don't.  What you are intrigued by and what you can teach me.   I need feedback.

I know you are out there.  My stats tell me you are. Since few of you comment, I've decided to try luring you all out by offering an anniversary celebration giveaway of one of my favorite kitchen/dining room tools: the Peugot pepper mill.  I've had mine for years and it's dear to me.  Even though I have one, I would happily take another.  It is beautiful, both in aesthetic and design.  It functions superbly.  It is perfect for stove-side or table top.  I will be giving away one Peugeot Paris u'Select 9-Inch Chocolate Pepper Mill that features Peugeot's masterfully engineered grinding mechanisms and the patented u'Select feature, which lets you choose the grind from six settings with a simple turn of the base.  Yours will be even better than mine, which has the old style adjustable grind mechanism and doesn't lock into place.  I hope you all enter because this is a fine pepper mill and deserves a wonderful home.
How to Enter:

Leave a comment on this post telling me one thing about yourself.  Any one thing.  Anonymous comments will be not be counted, since I would have no way of knowing who you are.  One entry per person.  Entries will be accepted until midnight on Saturday, August 14, 2010.  The winner will be announced on Monday, August 16.  Winner will be selected randomly.  The giveaway is not sponsored by anyone but little old me.

Good luck!

Ciao Bella! I love food, too- I have especially dove into Pho up here in POrtland and found a beautiful place to eat it and drink Thai beer. The noodles are so fresh and the prices so great I might go this weekend. Happy anniversary!

Here's something you might not have known about me: I am obsessed with cracked pepper. It all started when I bussed tables for a local steak house. They made the best peppercorn ranch dressing. They also had these ginormous pepper grinders, and it was the job of the bussers to crack zee pepper on zee salads. I have a grinder, but it's not adjustable, which means I can't get the nice crunchy bits I love. I put pepper on everything. I put pepper on my pepper. I love pepper.

Happy anniversary!

I have that pepper grinder in blond wood! Ha. Nothing like a good grinder. (But coarse ground pepper always sticks between my teeth.) Happy 1-year...keep on writin'.

I love your blog and I'm sorry I don't comment more often. Let's see...I love spicy food! Not just heat, though - I want something with a lot of flavor.

I do love your blog! I feel you pain too b/c I have a lot of readers and few commenters!

Okay my fun fact is that I got to go watch people break shit (aka pieces of metal) in the name of science today. :)

Thing about me: I prefer a grapefruit twist in my martini. (Okay, it's not much, but I am flat out of thoughts that aren't about work right now.)

I like to call my wig Liliana. You should hear what it calls me!

Hello! My name is Mindy, and I enjoy reading your blog as well. I enjoying cooking but have little time to do it, as I work full-time and have a 2.5 year old son. So I live vicariously through you and a couple other food bloggers in New Orleans, and read your blogs in bed at night while my hubby sleeps. In 10 weeks, I will be welcoming a little girl into the world. Her name will be Scarlett. :)

Congratulations on your anniversary, and keep up the wonderful blog!

When I was a little brat in the early 1960s, I used to insist on filling our family's pepper grinder every time. It was my job. The pepper grinder was, and is, a simple little affair -- a wooden cylinder with a crank handle on top, but shorter than your cool Peugeot.

When I was in my twenties, my mom gave it to me; she still thought of it as "mine". A few years later I got divorced, and my ex innocently took it with her, thinking it an insignificant kitchen tool that a single guy wouldn't care about. I was beside myself!... but too wimpy to say anything. Then, a certain sibling of mine went with me to visit her and my offspring... and when we left, this unidentified sibling had it hidden inside her coat!

I still have it. The pepper grinder, not the coat.

Hey, just found your blog. You are a very good writer and I am enjoying looking through your recipes. I WILL be making your Cilantro Lime Slaw VERY soon.
A fact about me...I am leaving in the morning for 3 wonderful days in New Orleans!!!

Anna August 5, 2010 at 3:26 PM

I'm a [now] New Orleanian and of course love the food -- but not the traditional heavy/saucy/simply-creole-spicy New Orleans food, but the innovative/locally-grown/ever-changing New Orleans food that is increasingly popular! I think your blog is a great variety features, and thanks for the giveaway!

I see myself as a kitchen failure and that is why I have trouble even entering the kitchen. However your simple yet pure way of cooking has inspired me to take more of an interest in what I consume. Bravo on your anniversary!

Mmm. Shiny pepper grinder, from a french car manufacturer. Neat. I could actually really use one of those.

If the fact has to be weird, probably the weirdest thing I know how to do is how to sandblast metal.

Hah, I didn't comment in time to get in on the pepper grinder, but that's okay because I own three, and one of them is in fact a giant among grinders, a Rubirosa, by its French name.

Rubirosa? Porfirio Rubirosa, Dominican polo player and erstwhile playboy who married among others, Doris Duke and Barbara Hutton. Why is my 3-foot long pepper grinder monickered such by the French? You either have to guess, or google the chap.
